Weston Eagle (E49559), of Sunny Bank, QC, enlisted with the Regiment de la Chaudiere in February 1942 at the age of 18. His brother, Whonnell, also enlisted.

Sergeant Frank William Ebdon (E29977), of Valcartier, QC, served with HQ Platoon, D Company, of the Royal Rifles of Canada during the Second World War. He was deployed to the Pacific and fought valiantly in the defence of Hong Hong when the Japanese unexpectedly attacked the city a month after his arrival. After several days of intense fighting the allies were forced to surrender to the Japanese on Christmas day 1941 and Sergeant Ebdon became a prisoner of war. He remained a POW until allied forces liberated him in 1945. Sergeant Ebdon passed away on October 21, 1991.

Edgecombe, G.
George E. Edgecombe (B68236), of Toronto, ON, served with the Royal Rifles of Canada during the Second World War. He was deployed to the Pacific and fought valiantly in the defence of Hong Hong when the Japanese unexpectedly attacked the city a month after his arrival. After several days of intense fighting the allies were forced to surrender to the Japanese on Christmas day 1941 and Rifleman Edgecombe became a prisoner of war. He remained a POW until allied forces liberated him in 1945.

Edwards, R.
Flying Officer Raymond Fraser Edwards (J/21997), son of John Raymond and Grace (nee Fraser) Edwards of Escuminac, Quebec, was born on November 24, 1917. After the Second World War broke out he enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was killed in an air operation (at age 26) while serving overseas on May 26, 1944. He is buried at Fettercairn Cemetery, Kincardineshire, United Kingdom.

Private Edwin David Eggie (H41808), of Swan River, MB, served with A Company of the Winnipeg Grenadiers during the Second World War. He was deployed to the Pacific and fought valiantly in the defence of Hong Hong when the Japanese unexpectedly attacked the city a month after his arrival. After several days of intense fighting the allies were forced to surrender to the Japanese on Christmas day 1941 and Private Eggie became a prisoner of war. He remained a POW until allied forces liberated him in 1945. He died on January 21, 1987.

Joseph Element (E14666), of New Carlisle, QC, joined the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps on April 22, 1941 at the age of 18. He served in Canada, England, and continental Europe. He was honourably discharged in October 1945. In the early 1950s he passed away after being injured while working in the woods.

As of 2008, Master Corporal Kim Element, daughter of Allan and Lucy Element, has been serving with the Argyllis Regiment in Kandhar, Afghanistan since June 16, 2006.

Raymond Elliott (E30023), of Pointe a la Garde, QC, served with 16th Platoon, D Company, of the Royal Rifles of Canada during the Second World War. He was deployed to the Pacific and fought valiantly in the defence of Hong Hong when the Japanese unexpectedly attacked the city a month after his arrival. After several days of intense fighting the allies were forced to surrender to the Japanese on Christmas day 1941 and Private Elliott became a prisoner of war. He remained a POW until allied forces liberated him in 1945.

Percy John Ellis (H6771), son of Ernest and Beatrice Ellis of Wawanesa, MB, was born on February 28, 1917. During the Second World War he served with Battalion HQ Company of the Winnipeg Grenadiers. He was deployed to the Pacific and fought valiantly in the defence of Hong Hong when the Japanese unexpectedly attacked the city a month after his arrival. He was specifically mentioned in dispatches for his efforts during this battle. After several days of intense fighting, however, the allies were forced to surrender to the Japanese on Christmas day 1941 and Private Ellis became a prisoner of war. Tragically, he did not survive the horrendous living conditions of the POW camps and died on August 26, 1942. He is buried at Sai Wan War Cemetery, Victoria, Hong Kong.

Rifleman Alfred William Elsliger (E30574), originally from Jacquet River, NB, served with A Company of the Royal Rifles of Canada during the Second World War. He was deployed to the Pacific and fought valiantly in the defence of Hong Hong when the Japanese unexpectedly attacked the city a month after his arrival. After several days of intense fighting, however, the allies were forced to surrender to the Japanese on Christmas day 1941 and Rifleman Elsliger became a prisoner of war. He remained a POW until allied forces liberated him in 1945. Tragically, Rifleman Elsliger never recovered from the injuries and illnesses he had experiences during his time as a POW and he passed only a short while after his liberation on October 25, 1945.

Private Harold Englehart, son of Henry and Mary Englehart of Restigouche, QC, served with the 26th Battalion of the Canadian Infantry (New Brunswick Regiment) during the First World War. He laid down his life for his country on August 4, 1916.

He was deployed to the Pacific and fought valiantly in the defence of Hong Hong when the Japanese unexpectedly attacked the city a month after his arrival. After several days of intense fighting, however, the allies were forced to surrender to the Japanese on Christmas day 1941 and Rifleman Englehart became a prisoner of war. He remained a POW until allied forces liberated him in 1945.

Rupert Charles Englehart (E29983), originally from Wyer's Brook, NB, served with the Royal Rifles of Canada during the Second World War. He was deployed to the Pacific and fought valiantly in the defence of Hong Hong when the Japanese unexpectedly attacked the city a month after his arrival. After several days of intense fighting, however, the allies were forced to surrender to the Japanese on Christmas day 1941 and Rifleman Englehart became a prisoner of war. Tragically, he did not survive the horrendous living conditions of the POW camps and died of catarrhal pneumonia on February 28, 1943. He is buried at Yokohama War Cemetery, Japan.

Lance Corporal Arley Enright (E30255), of Hopetown, QC, served with the Royal Rifles of Canada during the Second World War. He was deployed to the Pacific and fought valiantly in the defence of Hong Hong when the Japanese unexpectedly attacked the city a month after his arrival. After several days of intense fighting, however, the allies were forced to surrender to the Japanese on Christmas day 1941 and Rifleman Enright became a prisoner of war. He remained a POW until allied forces liberated him in 1945. After the end of hostilities he returned to Canada and worked for the Canadian Nation Railway in Gaspe, Newfoundland, and Moncton. Upon his retirement he moved to Moncton, New Brunswick.

George Thomas Everett (E30158) of Bury, QC, served with the Royal Rifles of Canada during the Second World War. He was deployed to the Pacific and fought valiantly in the defence of Hong Hong when the Japanese unexpectedly attacked the city a month after his arrival. After several days of intense fighting, however, the allies were forced to surrender to the Japanese on Christmas day 1941 and Rifleman Everett became a prisoner of war. He remained a POW until allied forces liberated him in 1945.
